Youth in Digital Activism: Global Citizenship Advocacy Contest
This contest is jointly organized by Hong Kong Baptist University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong and The Education University of Hong Kong for all the students who have a keen interest in promoting sustainability to demonstrate a sophisticated understanding of global issues, communicate positive message to the public, and advocate feasible changes to the community in an engaging, creative, and persuasive way.
Eligibility
All UGC students from HKBU, CUHK and EdUHK are welcome to take part in this contest. Participation can be individual or a team (up to 4 members per team). Repeated applications from participants or repeated entries are not allowed.

Categories
- Title: In English, maximum 10 words
- Originality: The video must be an original work of the entrant(s).
- Content: Visual presentation of data should be incorporated in the video.
- Narration: In the participant’s own voice and in English with subtitles.
- Advocacy: The video should be able to promote cognitive, social-emotional or behavioural changes.
- Citation: All the footage, music or images used in the video must be cited properly at the end of the video.
- Length: 3-5 mins
- File format:
– AVI, MP4, MPG, WMV formats
– File name: “category no. (01, 02, 03)_application no.”
- Title: In English, maximum 10 words
- Originality: All the photographs must be shot by the entrant(s).
- Content:
- – 8-10 photographs
- – A short essay, or a paragraph of captions for each photograph to enhance the narration
- – Total text of 200-500 words
- – One-page A4-size poster advocating the same topic at the end of the essay with infographics to represent key information (e.g., data graphs, charts, or a cycle of actions)
- Narration: A narrative approach or a thematic approach can be adopted to organize the photo essay.
- – Narrative photo essay: a series of photographs documenting an event, portraying a place or telling the story of a character
- – Thematic photo essay: a series of photographs portraying the same topic or theme
- Advocacy: The photo essay and poster should be able to promote cognitive, social-emotional or behavioural changes.
- File format:
– AVI, MP4, MPG, WMV formats
– File name: “category no. (01, 02, 03)_application no.”
- Title: In English, maximum 10 words
- Originality: The entry must be an original piece, completed solely by the entrant(s).
- Art forms: poetry (in English), short story (in English), painting, or songs (lyrics in English). Write a short description of 100 words to explain how the work addresses global citizenship issues and promote changes.
- Advocacy: The work of art should be able to promote cognitive, social-emotional or behavioural changes.
- File format:
– Poetry: A4-size pages in PDF format
– Short story: A4-size pages in PDF format (maximum: 3,000 words)
– Painting:
• On physical media:
– Size: between A2 (59.4cm X 42 cm) and 90cm X 60cm
– Painting media: not restricted
• On digital media: JPEG or PNG file with a resolution of 300 dpi or higher
– Song: MP3, WAV formats (with lyrics attached to the description)
– Description: A4-size pages in PDF format
– File name:
