Nurturing Global Citizenship through English (NGCE) is an English for Specific Purposes (ESP) project that puts language learning and practices in the context of a set of major global themes, including those of the environment, intercultural communication, the media and technology. The NGCE serves as a framework for a rich learning experience, in support of the pivotal belief that young people can all make a difference, and using modules designed for collaborative learning activities under a comprehensive variety of themes, objectives, and topics suggested by UNESCO.

The project seeks to empower students to embrace their social responsibility to act for the benefit of all societies, while developing their knowledge and language skills and the values they will need to engage fully and effectively with the world. Through this project, it is expected that students will become more open to differences, more receptive to diversity, and more motivated to take actions to make the world a better place.

Themes

The project follows three broad thematic categories – students’ cognitive, social-emotional, and behavioural skills – in accord with UNESCO’s global citizenship educational framework. Students will be joining sessions of induction into the key concepts of global citizenship, realities and possibilities.
